State of Michigan using new Quality Improvement Organization to manage Medicare beneficiary complaints

Effective June 8, 2019, Livanta will replace KEPRO as the new Beneficiary and Family Centers Care Quality Improvement organization (BFCC-QIO) for Michigan.

On May 10, 2019, Livanta sent a provider bulletin announcing this change to all Medicare providers. The bulletin also informed providers of steps they need to take to prepare for the transition.

More information about this change, including FAQs, is available from Livanta.

What is a Beneficiary and Family Centers Care Quality Improvement Organization (BFCC-QIO)?

A BFCC-QIO helps Medicare beneficiaries exercise their right to high-quality health care. They manage beneficiary complaints and quality of care reviews. They also handle cases in which beneficiaries want to appeal a health care providers’ decision to discharge them from the hospital or discontinue other types of services.

More information about Quality Improvement Organizations (QIOs) is available from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

What is Priority Health doing to prepare for this transition?

We have updated the provider manual to reflect this change by replacing KEPRO’s name and contact information with Livanta’s. This includes applicable forms and publications. Livanta's contact information for the State of Michigan is listed below:
